hurricane turn train.
this is the last train in the US that makes flag stops. like, you can actually flag down the train to stop to pick you up - what an incredible journey!
view from the bubble car
we left the talkeetna depot and traveled as far as chulitna. we let the conductor know ahead of time we'd be getting off. from there, we left the train for a two-hour excursion - pictures to follow in another post...
but before our stop, the train must have come to a halt a dozen times or so, picking up hunters or residents catching a ride to town for groceries and other supplies. some stops were for mail. others, were getting off like us.
so many great sights along the way, like this old power pole. check the glass insulators still atop the poles. i have several of these rare gems dotted throughout my garden.
at one point, ben and dylan were snuggling in the row behind jb and me, ben handed me his phone to show off dylan's 47 pictures of her jeans. do your kiddos do this?! always makes me giggle!
the views were too stunning to sit behind glass; i needed to smell that alaskan air!
kiddos too!
after we flagged the train in chulitna, we stopped again just a few miles down the tracks at indian river canyon. oh, it was just plain gorgeous! the conductor said many people camp here, and i can see why...
wouldn't you want to wake up to this view?
long day.
left at 12:45, reached the depot just after 7 pm.
