freedom 4-miler

4-mile run in willow this independence day.  another gorgeous day for a run.  (and another morning of rousting the kiddos out of bed a lot earlier than desired.)  if i had planned this better, i would have had jackie run the kid's 1k.  instead, he was happy to cheer on all the adorable boys and girls in super-cute 4th of july attire, clapping and laughing.  whatta good sport.

i wish i could say this was my best run yet, but it wasn't.  shortly after the kid's run finished, they announced there was about 5 minutes until the start of the race.  jack turned into a grade A clinger, grabbing my legs, clutching my neck, saying mama, i want up!  so, as i scooped him up, ben snapped a picture, and we heard ok, GO!  ahhh!  you'll see in the start picture that there is only one other person behind me.  nothing like starting a race, already feeling that need to catch up.  that's just the worst thought process too!  needless to say, i never felt into the race.  my mind messed with me the entire time.  thankfully, this wasn't really a timed race.  i mean, it was, but there were, like, 3-4 people with stop watches.  gah.  so, maybe that's a good thing...

 stop smooching and pay attention!!!
 me, on the far right
i missed all this fun cuteness

 great pictures, dada!

 dirtball.

after the race, we found a spot along the highway to pull off and watch the parade.  only in alaska, where we have one highway going north and south, would they think to temporarily close it.  anything for america's birthday!  the parade was complete with fire trucks, ambulances, a water truck, floats and flags, old and new shiny cars and TONS of cANdy!  jack was totally into it all - waving and clapping, running out to snatch up handfuls of treats and even saying shank YOU!

 quitter.
