conversation

i sneak away to the bathroom, and the following conversation occurs:

mama, what doin' in dere?
ill be out in a sec, jack.
hey, mama?  i miss you.
i miss you too, bud.
mama?  
yes, jack?
ca’i come in an see you?
not right now, honey.  mama’s sick.
oh.  wanme rub you back?
no thanks, bud.  i’ll be out soon. 
mama?  i sad.  come out now, pwease.
(meanwhile, dylan discovers what’s going on by the door, ambles over and begins to cry)
mama?  duey’s sad.  
i know, bud, i hear her.
you done NOW, mama?  (waits for no pause)  mama, guess what?  (starts counting to 20, stops at 13 then 15, then 19 but repeats 19 three times, and then exclaims twenny!)
good job, bud.  can you go play for a bit?
no.  i stay hwere.  kay, mama?  kay.
knock, knock!  peek!  who’s dere?
oh, who’s there, jack?
jack and annie!  (insert fits of giggling)

then after, i open the door to find both children, laying on dylan’s blankie, head to head.  life is rich, i tell ya.
