duey.

yep, of the huey and luey fashion.  this is jack's new nickname for his sister.  the kid's a riot.  i wish i could share him (on his best days of course) with all of you.

this 3.5 age has been quite enjoyable.  where my days used to be consumed with thoughts of i can't wait until bedtime or just barely getting by until his school days, now we have days full of laughter and questioning, wonder and interest.  jackie is such an inward thinker, but yet, full of expressive emotion.  he processes thoughts and then commits to these questions that just blow me away, often to the point where i am right now, still marveling at his tiny human brain.

it's all going so fast.  3.5 years have flown by in a flash.  exhibit a: jackie got his first birthday invitation from his school friend cameron.  these two share quite the kinship... cars mania.  cameron was wearing lightning mcqueen slippers the first day i dropped jackie off at school.  i knew from that instant they would be buddies.  and now here he is, about to pick out a birthday gift for his old pal.  makes me feel rather old, too.

and speaking of getting old, dylan won't stop growing.  (this is meant to be read in the whiniest, saddest voice possible.)  i know, i know.  shocker.  but c'mon, girl, just slooooow down.  my pale, pudgy baby is thinning out and losing the triple chin.  breaks my heart.  she's recently started a speed walking club (with herself) and is showing no signs of slowing down.  she's started to give kisses; she waves nigh-night to her brother; speed walks straight into me, throwing her arms around my neck in what i can only describe as the early stages of a hug.  this action not only brings me great joy, but makes me shake my head in disbelief.  can i say it again?  i'm gonna anyway.  BOYS AND GIRLS ARE SO DIFFERENT!  i mean, all those nonverbal communication cues that took jack the better part of two years to finally give back to us, have just been spewing from duey for months now.  all those times of thinking my son was such a "late bloomer" are negated by the fact that he was just far too busy and could have cared less about waving bye bye.  the kid wanted to run, jump from sofas, yell out in excitement and not be bothered to stop and learn pat-a-cake.

speed walking into me
love her!

let's see, what else can i brag about... the girl plays peek-a-boo with blankies; claps when she successfully gets dollies (or sippies or blocks or little people) into her stroller; sings to herself; attempts to climb anything resembling a step; and has fascinating fine motor skills.  she places little people into their vehicles and takes them out, ten times over.  she puts dollies into her stroller, then takes them out.  gets the concept of puzzles.  even found a fantastic game, all by herself, with our safety gate.

 i can't explain this face.

she likes to bring objects to you, even if most times she's taking them back right away.  jack really likes this game. (but he's not very good at giving things back to her...)  she has a cup holder on the tray of her high chair, and she likes to place her sippy neatly in its place after a big gulp of milk.  milk.  hmmm yep, she's still nursing.  i've attempted to cut back on feedings in the morning, trying to limit to just before nap times and beddy-bye, but so far, we have not been successful.  jack nursed until 14 months and was so ready to wean, but she's approaching 14 months and is not showing signs of slowing down just yet.  ah, well.  i cherish these times, really.  there's moments (mere seconds) when i wish i could scoop up chubby, baby jack and do the same.  he actually asked me last tuesday if he could eat from mama's boobs? and when i questioned him, he giggled and said no way, that's icky, mama!

my babies playing together = THE best.  tub time is one of our favorites.  you can bet on giggles out of dylan, more water out of the tub than in, somebody's bound to get a zerbert and funny expressions galore.  take last night, for instance...

this is when i know she's done.
or, she ends up sucking her thumb and rubbing jack's ear.
oh, she's too much!
