larson trail

there's only so many trails in the valley that are kid-friendly.  i may have to (gasp!) expand to anchorage.  but here, winding through a picture perfect neighborhood and around an elementary school is an ideal walking trail for jack to run and seek mushrooms and ride his scooter.  i've said it enough that the kid is crazy for fungi.  i think more than actually seeing them, it's the hunt that really gets him excited.

a swift kick to the stem, sends the top sailing

jackie's version of half-moon pose, i'm sure

the ideal find

my dear friend, sarah, accompanied us, and jack is always thrilled with a sarah visit.  she is likely his oldest friend.   sarah worked side-by-side with me throughout my first pregnancy, and then, was great about visiting me through those somewhat lonely first few months of adjusting to my new life with child.  and, especially since ben worked out in the bush for a good chunk of jb's first six months.  how nice to have someone so willing to sit and listen to baby stories and milestones and watch me fumble a brown-haired silly putty body of baby joy.  jackie's always had a special place in his little heart for sarah.  me too.

this guy was as big as a dinner plate!

with about 100 yards until reaching the truck, i let the beast run free.  dylan's at the age where she's just a terror to have loose.  plus, she's one of those kids that crams any and everything into their mouth.  it's annoying.  it's dirty.  and, it's really frustrating for this germ freak.  nevertheless, it would be close to torture to go for an hour and a half walk to a 30-minute truck ride home.  she was quite pleased to stretch her legs and bask in the sunshine.

the girl is loose!
