this summer, we've made a habit of getting out on sunday mornings and walking to get our coffee. in the colder months, it's something we grab as we are out driving around, looking at property or just out for a cruise. but, when it's too nice to be stuffed in a truck, we go for a stroll. jb is now old enough, strong enough and just barely responsible enough to ride his scooter the 4 miles round trip. he waits for us, usually speeding back and then going on ahead again. and when dada comes along, there is usually a race or two between scooter and stroller.
hey, guys! c'mon, guys!
ready, set...

once back home, we ambled around the yard, checking out our island of trees to see if any mushrooms or other interesting plants have sprouted up. on this day, we weren't quite as lucky as past summers. we just haven't had much rain. (that is, until this week, but that's for a later post...) this particular sunday was on the 31st. the daisies were still blooming around our property, providing a fun back drop for pictures. the dogwood berries were in full swing (jack calls them blueberries) and the fireweed is just about at maximum bloom before all the flowers fall away, and we're left with just pink sticks against the backdrop of greenery.
legend has it that when the fireweed reaches full bloom, there is just 6 weeks until winter. this year, i'd believe it. just this past week, the weather has turned to fall. i swear. we are on day 6-7 of rain (of course though, the sun shines bright as i'm zipping up jammies and watching my babies attempt to brush their round teeth) but during the day, it dumps. sheets of rain, mountains disappearing for days at a time, big, nasty rain clouds. it's crazy. i mean, this is fair weather ('cause it ALWAYS rains the first day of the fair!). nonetheless, i love hoodies and jeans, so if it's autumn, i'm ready. (and having maui a mere 7 months away doesn't hurt either...)
