framing: in progress

i think there's two kinds of people:  those who love the smell of cut grass or those who love the smell of cut lumber.  i'm a cut lumber kinda girl.  as i walked out to capture the progress made (in ONE day!), i was overwhelmed by the fragrance in the air.  scraps and saw dust littered the pad and gravel surrounding.  maybe it's because we've (yes, we) been dreaming of this moment for years or maybe because up until this point, the progress has been rather drab.  or, maybe it was the way the sun was still shining bright in the sky at 9 pm.  whatever the situation was, i had a smile ear-to-ear this evening.

our life is so simple.

it's all gonna go fairly quickly from here on out.  and, this is where the noticeable, exciting stuff will happen.  where ben's focus has been single-shop-minded since march, now i'll be the one to have visions of deep sinks and countertops, swimming around in my head.

  • i get to dig out my color swatch booklet and select some paint colors.
  • visit the cabinetry store and chat with the designers about a kitchen layout - albeit a quaint, studio-style kitchen area
  • fall in love with flooring and all the other bath, lighting and plumbing fixtures

five years ago, when we picked everything out for our home, i swear the pregnancy brain got the best of me.  all these years later, i swear we got gypped.  the fixtures in our bath (that have since been replaced) were not what we ordered.  or, maybe i was that far gone into baby-la-la-land to remember the ordered sink fixtures from my own middle name.

this time around?  i'm focused.  i'm ready.  i'm pinning.  ha.

here's the view from standing near our house.  our carpenter worked his way from that far back wall, around to the garage door openings, to the side with the windows.  i'm not gonna lie, the height was a tad (ok, a lot) alarming, and then to have him tell me the second story will be another eight feet higher... oh, boy.  we are now that alaskan family with a bigger shop than house.

ben's in h-e-a-v-e-n.

it's colony days this weekend.  the kids and i are hitting up palmer tomorrow, so we'll be away for the morning through late afternoon, and i'm already excited to see the progress.  (can you believe this guy works alone?!)

more to come.
