day 2

our first full day on maui. i can't express enough what an amazing feeling it is to wake up to such beautiful sights. well i mean, our view at home is pretty great, but to wake up to 80 degree weather and your only clothing predicament lies in which swimsuit to wear, rather than down vest versus down jacket, it's pretty grand.

we chose to venture down to the town of wailea because the beaches there are some of the best; soft sand as far as you can walk into the ocean. we chose to post up at polo beach behind the fairmount resort. they offered umbrellas for a nominal fee which for us, wasn't even a question with our fair-skinned ginger.

jack LOVED the beach. he loved the sand between his toes (but not in his sandals), he loved having the waves chase him, running and skipping away. ben and i took turns sitting with dylan under the umbrella. i played in the ocean with jack, holding onto him as we jumped in the waves. that's one of my fondest memories of being in florida - having my father hold onto me as the waves crashed into us. now, i'm making them with my own child. i love the full-circle that life provides. makes me warm inside.

after naps, we decided to check out the pool at our place. brrr! after swimming in the warm bath water of the pacific, the pool was uncomfortably cold. the boys didn't last long, and the girls didn't even attempt.

later, we made our way across the green grass of our complex and down to the beach to watch the sunset. as you can see, the beach in front of our place was not the best for playing. the combination of rocks and coral made for a rough walk - but it did provide great ammo for throwing! oh, and notice the wind mills on the mountainside? we flew over them the day before so it made us smile to see them again.
