the airplane.

airplane flights are always interesting.  each time you fly, the child is a little older, so what may have worked on the last flight, may not be as effective the next time around.  see, for dylan's first flight, she was a 7-month old, non-crawling, lump of baby, perfectly content to sit on a lap for 6 hours.  for her second flight, she was a terror and a half; crawling, furniture walking, don't hold me, don't pick me up, leave me alone! stage.  fun.  thank goodness, it was only a 3-hour flight to seattle.  this time around, i was even more nervous because she was even more busy!  and what do you know?!  the kid surprised me and did quite well.

jack is also a great traveller.  my how times have changed!  the kid's grown up.  before i know it, he'll be asking for the car keys and changing my bed pans.  (but let's hope not on the latter!)  jackie is content to watch movies on his iPod and consume snack after snack.  the key to my traveling success is always (always!) having "new" snacks, books, toys and stickers that they have never seen before, and of course, only allowing one thing at a time, like say, every half-hour.

dylan discovering golden grahams.
{tasty}
and then moving onto cinnamon toast crunch.
don't judge me.  it's a long flight.

jack's trunki held the following "new" items:
    • cars hauler "jerry" - the one that says "i ain't no mack, i'ma peterbilt for dang sake!"
    • a couple little critter books
    • thomas the train "butch" - he's a tow truck
    • stuffed "filmore" brought up from the disney store - thanks, gramma d!
    • and plenty of treats!
dylan wasn't too overloaded with items because she's more food-based.  she did get her first my little pony, complete with comb (which she preferred to put in her mouf), and gramma d brought a sesame street board book with a fun little rhyme.

one thing i did assume was that both my babies would nap.  the kid's wake-up was at 7 am, leaving the house by 8 and wouldn't you know, dylan didn't close her eyes until we put her in gramma's crib at 10 pm, minnesota time.  that's 12 hours that little red was going.  she's a pistol.  jack, on the other hand, slept several hours.  i knew this would happen though because for days leading up to our flight, all he talked about was sweeping on dat airpane.  whatta guy.

asks to we-wax, and wouldn't you know it...
 within minutes, he's counting sheep.

the flight coming home was a little more nerve-wracking.  i didn't have the help of gramma d.  it was two on one.  them against me.  but once again, i was thoroughly surprised.  jack was content to watch his iPod.  dylan consumed her 3,000 calories/day (i'm sure of it) in our 6-hour flight home.  jb did take some time away from watching mater's tall tales to play with his sister.  jack and i both got the giggles with his shenanigans.  and as much as dylan likes to laugh, she had to chime in, too.

 mama!  duey's waining goldfish!
as they would spill off her head
she's trouble.

slept like this for over an hour...
then took up two seats like this, for another hour,
so this is where she remained for that time frame.
you can see she's pretty thrilled about it.

we've already booked our next vacation for march.  more growth and surprised to come, i'm sure!
