hey! the hay flats!

enjoying autumn, take two.  another gorgeous day planted in our faces.  50 degrees and full-bore sunshine.  we'll take every last drop of these rays.  with the husband at work and the kids with energy, we packed up and drove out to the hay flats off hayfield road.  we've only hiked this trail one other time, and surprisingly, i left my camera behind.  not this time though...

at the beginning of the trailhead, there's an overlook with a long ramp to run up (and down, naturally) and a bench to take in the glorious views.  twin peaks and pioneer peak can be seen from this lookout.  after the kids warmed up (see: laps up & down the ramp) we trudged on ahead to walk the 1 1/4 mile loop.

 attempt #2
success!

oh, and let this commence the leaving-of-the-stroller!  i thought this day would never come.  but.  oh, was i ahead of myself.  while dylan has energy for days, she also sports a mind of her own.  we're gonna go this way, so she's gonna go that way.  (and, never look back, i might add!)  after 10 minutes of pleading and encouraging and nooo seeester, go THIS way! i decided to sling her onto my back in order to keep up with the boss.  i'm certain we'd still be out there if i wouldn't have done such a move.

 fungi love.
jack saw this tree and said,
mama, yook, MUSCLE TREE!
i love his imagination.
you think the wind blows out here?!
you go dat way, i go dis way.

 hold hands wif me, pwease.
this is his surprise face, one of my favs!
speaking of surprise, i got a muuuahh! without even begging.

ahhh!  i love this face too!

 back at the truck,
we MADE it, mama!

walks like this, fresh air like this, ensure a perfect nap time.  so, ask any mother what her top 3 favorite times of the day are, and i guarantee one of them will be such time.

hope you're enjoying autumn as much as we are!
