makeover

so, after ben's 10-day sheep hunt but before our (gramma d, the rascals and my) trip out east, ben and i snuck in a sneaky little (BIG) project for our dear nana lynn.  i had noticed some things that needed a tightening of a screw here or a replacement thingy there, but then my mind went into overdrive on how much fun it would be to go through some paint swatches.  why is that so enjoyable?  then, once ben was on board, we got really carried away, thinking how much fun it would be to paint both bathrooms, replace all fixtures and oh-while-we're-at-it let's make it a surprise.

one afternoon, i had quizzed mama lynn, trying to get out of her what she likes best in fixtures and color.  i (basically) fibbed and said my own mother was thinking of redoing her bath... tee hee.  so after ben and i's 5k race (blog to follow), we raced (again) over to lynn's, did i mention that i just told her to leave her house?  one of those, you don't have to go home, but you can't stay here... but actually you can't go home bit?!  i was coming unglued with anticipation; thinking of her grin from ear-to-ear and how excited (and maybe a tad nervous) as to what her thoughts were.  i mean, i hadn't given her a single clue.  not a one.  see, these miebs people, they get obsessive with secrets.  every birthday, every holiday with presents, it's ok, lemme ask 10 questions, puh-lease!  but, lynn was good and just agreed to be surprised.

ok, so without too many drawn-out, boring details about (literally) watching paint dry, we finished both baths in one day.  mostly.  ben had to go back at a later date to complete the over-the-toilet cabinetry in lory's bath.  those were after thoughts and in the white finish, added extra brightness.  oh, and he also did new faucet heads, too.  we painted mom's bath a real light lavender with one accent wall a true lavender.  so pretty.  i think dylan's room needs a makeover...  and what wall color to pick for the sister that loves black???  a pale, pale peachy color, apparently.  i had to keep in mind that yes this was lory's bath but actually it was lynn's bath too.  and to my (happy) surprise, lory loved it!  i had jackie paint some canvases to add a burst of color, and i think she was mostly tickled by his contribution.  we did: fresh paint, light fixtures and towel fixtures, new towels and rugs, shower curtain and containers... all in 10 hours.  super-fun day, happy homeowner and happy diy-ers.
