after spending the night in redding, we got back on the road to lincoln, a suburb of sacramento. gramma d and i were so anxious to see our family (and maybe be done with the driving portion of the vacation...) no really, the kids DID do great, considering how much pavement we covered; about 740 miles, if you're taking note.
a minivan really is the way to travel with little ones. gramma d ended up driving the majority of the time because it worked out great for me to wiggle my way back there to meet the kid's needs. dylan got a few en route diaper changes, and it seemed i was forever picking up dropped sippy cups ala jack miebs and fetching runaway trucks. and, what i liked most about the minivan was the view from the far back seat! especially on a drive like ours, through mountain passes, fields upon fields of cows, horses, sheep and piggies and let us not forget magnificent mount shasta! absolutely breathtaking! the van held a 180 degree view which was great, but i still don't think i'm entirely sold on the idea. i get how convenient they can be, but i'm still happy to drive my truck. and, there's absolutely no way benji would drive the thing.
so we arrived at the doorstep of the jenkins just after noon. how great to finally see everyone, give extra long hugs, watch jackie run in the green grass, meet the newest babies and introduce dylan june, stay up late having convos with uncle jeff and close to number one on my list - bask in some sunshine!
